[Samantha's smile grew wider and more honest as she saw that reaction. She was eyeing the other girl and pretty sure that Asuka had definitely put some effort into this. But if there was something that made her look the most attractive, it was the stammering, the faint confusion, the bit of hitch in her breathing. It made the half-demon's tail twitch in long, slow motions behind her while she walked forward.
She managed not to wobble as she came up, reaching out an arm for the other girl to take if she wanted. When she spoke, it was much lower and with just a faint smoky hint to her tone.]
Oh, I know I did this just a little right. Please tell me that it's at least a bit like a Christmas present you're imagining unwrapping, not sure if you should be even thinking things like that. [No, for a split second that wasn't an innocent smile, but it was still pretty playful.]
[Asuka blushed a little as she reached forward and took Samantha's arm. It was very likely that, once the their arms were linked, that the demon-girl would be able to feel that slight tremble radiating from Asuka's entire body.]
I'll admit it, you look look really good tonight.
[she wasn't going to touch that innuendo with a ten foot pole.
[She didn't need to say anything about the innuendo. It had been meant to tease her a little. Samantha didn't actually think she was getting unwrapped tonight, though she wouldn't say no. However, she loved teasing her.
She felt that little tremble and her hand reached up to clasp Asuka's while they started to walk. She smiled over at her reassuringly.]
You do too. Thanks for coming with me. I think you'll like this restaurant.
Well I certainly couldn't say no, could I? Besides, I always have fun when we're together.
[She could be herself around Samantha, that alone was enough to make being around the half-demon well worth the effort it took Asuka to force herself fight against her own anti-social nature.]
It's a dark little place, where people get semi-private booths and it feels really intimate. Only open for dinner.
[It was also not far from the welcome house. When they were in the cool night air, she started to lead the way. She'd chosen it as much for the intimate atmosphere as for the fact that it was still open and dark. She wanted less light tonight. Keeping the anti-social girl close, she smiled over at her, tail lashing once. Honestly, she had fun on these meetings too, however awkward they could be at times.
[Asuka offered no resistance to Samantha drawing her close, as had actually come to enjoy being this closely connected to another person.
True, the seeds had been sown back when she was fourteen and had first tried to open up to Shinji and Misato, but a few wars and the end of the world had brought any further development of Asuka's ability to warm up to a screeching halt.
She was still a bit apprehensive about being out on a "real" date, as evidenced by her body's light shaking, but she would do her best. She always had and always would, no matter how hard the task at hand.]
You really went all out with trying to make tonight romantic. I'm honestly a little impressed.
[She smiled back. Praise was an honor the red-haired girl held for very very select group of people. Making it, at least as far as Asuka was concerned, as precious as gold or jewels.]
[She just kept on grinning away. Getting praise like that was a good thing in her mind. She'd wanted romantic, to give Asuka the feel of an actual date. It was something that they could enjoy, something where it felt like they weren't simply there as friends. Dressed like this, in a place like that, it would be hard to miss the subtext.]
[She smirked and nodded, leading the way. It wasn't really that far away, so the two of them wouldn't be walking far. She pointed once in the vague direction of the restaurant, keeping Asuka close on her arm. It was an advantage since it really was a little chilly. The other might notice faint goosebumps in her arms.]
I'm a little hungry myself, so I think getting over there's a good call.
[Asuka stuck close to Samantha, budging not an inch from her arm until they reached the restaurant. A part of it was the cold, yes, but also Asuka's attempt to keep stride with Samantha's attempt to make the evening a romantic one.]
Something with meat. I'm in kind of a beef or lamb sort of mood, myself. Not quite sure about dessert just yet, you?
[It wasn't a far walk. She'd chosen it as much as anything because it was close to Asuka's place, in addition to being a little romantic. She paused, however, at the door, giving the red-head a small smile and an expectant look.
It was the principle. Asuka was the one wearing the slacks. She got to hold the door.]
Pasta maybe? It's been awhile since I've had any Italian food. For dessert, not sure either. I'll have to see the menu.
[It took Asuka a second to connect Samantha's look with the closed door. She was used to being the one waited on hand and foot, so this sort of thing was alien to her.
After a moment, she is able to put two and two together and props open the door, beckoning for her date to enter.]
[She grinned at her, sparing Asuka the second horrible innuendo-laced joke she could make about menus and desserts. This was a date, and smart dates didn't make bad jokes like that ... at least not constantly. Stepping in, she bobbed her head and let Asuka catch up.
Thankfully there wasn't a line before they were being led back. As she'd said, it was definitely on the intimate side.]
You're in luck. It's not really italian here, but it's what Asgard thinks is Italian. It tastes good either way.
[Asuka caught up quickly, very well knowing from hanging around Samantha for months on end the sort of dirty jokes that could be made of her previous comments.
That aside, The intimate setting, with all of it's darkness and cramped spaces, made Asuka a little nervous. It was beginning to dawn on her that there was more to this then hanging out and the occasional make out session. And it made her a little scared.]
Even if the food was bad, I'm sure it would still be nice to be able to have some time together like this. I was really worried about you when you were drunk off your ass yesterday.
[When she settled down into the chair, Samantha tried not to listen to that comment. She asked for water, not needing a drop of alcohol right now, and not needing the lecture that came with it. When the drinks were ordered and the waiter gone, she sighed a little.]
...you want to talk about that, don't you? I... kind of want this to be a happy night, but we can talk about it first, as long as we can talk about something else after.
[And, as if a reminder that this was definitely something different than the usual hanging out, her foot brushed very lightly against Asuka's.]
[Asuka sat down and ordered a soda before turning her gaze firmly to Samantha. She had only meant to bring up that she was happy to see Samantha feeling better after what must have been a horrible day for her, but if she wanted to talk, they could talk. Better to get all of this out in the open then let it fester like a puss-filled wound.]
Only if you want to. I only meant that it was good to see you feeling a little better after what happened yesterday.
[Asuka jumped a little as Samantha's foot brushed against her. In turn, Asuka clumsily attempted to do the same. It was a poor showing, and might have felt almost as if she had kicked Samantha likely, but she was trying.]
We should... but not tonight. Tonight's supposed to be happy. I'll talk to you about it later, ok?
[She was grateful for the out, even as her shin got kicked a little. That made her snicker slightly, and Asuka would get to feel a certain nimble appendage reaching for her ankle, trying to help guide it where Samantha wanted it to go while her foot played a little.
There was a little shuffle, though, and the red-head might hear a shoe being wormed off, one boot out of sight. It wasn't a boot touching at the top of her ankle, teasing a little under her slack cuff. Just toes and hosiery.]

[Asuka nodded. Samantha could take all the time she wanted. Whenever the demon girl was ready to talk, Asuka would be there to hear her out.
Asuka did her best to follow the lead that Samantha had left for her. It was not perfect, but at least a bit better then her previous effort that had seen the Eva pilot kicking her partner.
All of the touching and rubbing brought a bright glow to Asuka's face. A sure sign that Samantha was doing something right.]

[By the time the bread sticks were brought out along with their drinks, someone's slacks had climbed about three inches up her leg. Samantha wasn't going to be 'too' bold with it, but she wanted to make it clear that this was not just a playful gesture to torment.
Seeing her blush also helped a bit in taking her mind off the earlier topic they were skirting. She smiled smugly as she rested her chin on the back of her hand.]
Don't act like you don't enjoy the attention. If you hated it, you would have kicked me for real by now.

[She laughed as if in jest. But, in reality, the number of people who had seen what lay beneath that black fabric could be counted on one hand, so it was something of a big deal to Asuka.]
