It had been average day, but something far from average had gone on with the renowned pilot of Eva-02. A surprise for her love, she knocked on the door of their shared living space,  upon opening the door, Samantha would find herself in front of a expanse of flesh nearly 5 feet wide and rounder then beach balls. Above the fleshy orbs, Asuka smiled.

"Hey." she said in a cocky tone.

A short list of small details concerning the Princess's past, since we don't know the whole story just yet.

(Keep in mind that all of this is speculation and not solid canon.)

Early Life

- Asuka lost her mother when she was younger, but likely didn't see her commit suicide like Soryu did in the TV series. Thus Asuka is not triggered by dolls or other similar toys.

- Being a captain in the Euro Air Force, Asuka most likely had to have joined when she was somewhere between the ages of seven and ten
years old.

- Her education level is likely more appropriate for her age, given that it was never commented that she'd graduated college like her TV counter part.

14 year gap

-Asuka and Mari have likely been friends/partners for awhile now, being she and Misato are the only  two people Asuka seems to actually get along with.

-Asuka has been nursing her unrequited feelings and regrets over Shinji for almost a decade and a half. Those feelings have left her bitter and jaded when it comes to romantic relationships, being she still clings to her regrets of decisions she mad as a teenager. It won't be easy to break down that barrier either, meaning ships with her will take immense amounts of effort on the other person's end.

-Asuka displays a certain level of maturity in 3.33 that she didn't in 2.22. It seems that being forced to work with others and live in a place that she could not easily isolate herself in have done wonders for her personality. That being said, pissed off Asuka is a scary sight.

-Asuka lost her eye to Angel contamination inflicted on her when she came into direct contact with the Angel that had taken over Eva 03. The corruption is most likely being held in check by the Angel Sealing Hex that appears on her eye when invokes Beast Mode.

-Asuka displays the ability to crack thick glass with her bare fist during the events of 3.33. How she is able to do this is unknown, but might have to do with the Angel Contamination.

-Asuka is a virgin. I say this both based on her clinging to her feelings for Shinji and being surrounded by a bunch of people she'd likely not want to have anything to do with on the Wunder.

-That being said, there is some level of sexual frustration going on with her due to the fact that she still looks 13/14 but is actually 27/28.

1. Sexuality and Mari

In short, what Asuka wants isn’t a person of a particular gender, but rather someone to "save" her.

She’s been forced to fight her entire life and even took it upon herself to refuse help from anyone. So in her inner fantasy life, she wants nothing more then for a person to take her hand and take away a bit of her burden. Thus her whole shtick in 3.33 is she feel betrayed by Shinji because he couldn’t live up to the role she wanted him to. If anything, it would make sense for her to reach out to Mari to fill that role.

And, as we see in 3.33, she’s ok with Mari helping her, which is amazing, since it is something of  a huge deal for Asuka to be able to let anyone that close to her. We can’t say anything for sure yet, but she is comfortable with Mari in a way that she isn’t with other people.

It is also very likely that Mari somehow has picked up on all of this. Near the end of 3.33 she clearly yells at Shinji to “At least save the Princess!”. Wether this is a reflection of wishing for Asuka to be able to resolve her feelings for Shinji, or a sub-textual voicing of the fact that she can’t save Asuka herself, it still speaks volumes of Mari’s ability to read and understand Asuka as a person.

2. Asuka's damaged eye

In short, I believe Asuka's eye was damaged either the actual fight between Bardial and unit-01 or the contamination that took place when the Angel first made contact with her. Either way, the fact that her eye occasionally glows with Angel Sealing Hex Glyphs seems to support the fact that it is has something to do with the Angels.

3. Journal Header
The line up on the top of the journal is the name of an unused song from End of Evangelion that is thought by many to reflect on Shinji and Asuka's doomed relationship. Lyrics below:

What was it she did to break your heart
Betray your heart and everything
Kiss you with a kiss that wasn't true
It wasn't you at all
Hide behind a painted smile, did you know that
You would live a lie or two
Pull the very ground from under you
And leave you nowhere else to run

You can sail the seven seas and find
Love is a place you'll never see
Passing you like a summer breeze
You feel life has no other reason to be
You can wait a million years and find
That heaven's too far away from you
Love's just a thing others do
What is love
Till it comes home to you

Did she promise you the world and did that
Girl just throw your love away
Leave you like a lonely solitaire
With just despair for company
Do you think you'd find revenge so sweet
Make it so you hearts will never beat
Squeeze the very last and dying breath from
Everything you've ever dreamed

You can sail the seven seas and find
Love is a place you'll never see
Passing you like a summer breeze
You feel life has no other reason to be
You can wait a million years and find
That heaven's too far away from you
Love's just a thing others do
What is love
Till it comes home to you

IC Information;

Character Name; Asuka Langley Shikinami

Canon; Rebuild of Evangelion

Canon Point; Post-3.33 [http://evangelion.wikia.com/wiki/Rebuild_of_Evangelion]

Age; 28 mentally, 14 physically.

House; Baldr, Asuka is a girl who has based her life upon being the best she can at everything in which she involves herself. Though this primarily reflects upon the fact that she sees herself as the best pilot NERV has ever had, it applies to her interactions with others as well. With a tendency to isolate herself from others, Asuka uses her talent, and a fair amount of bragging, as an excuse to never interact with other people beyond a superficial level. This is also a defensive mechanism meant to spare her the pain that often comes with becoming close to others.

As of 3.33, Asuka has become jaded during a decade and a half spent fighting the war against NERV, yet she retains her own sense of pride as a pilot. It is worth noting that, in 3.33, the sole time Asuka is able to smile is while piloting her Eva, a small sign that she has pinned what little bit of happiness she has left on her talent as a pilot.

Power; Regeneration

Personality;

The pride of the Euro Air force, Asuka is a talented young girl who managed to attain an impressive level of success despite her young age. Having been risen to the the rank of captain at the age of 14, Asuka sees herself as the very best as what she does and often backs up that bragging on the battlefield, as seen when she effortlessly dispatched the seventh angel during her first appearance in 2.22.

Despite her impressive credentials, Asuka is also a lonely girl who has seen her meteoric rise to the top isolate her from others. Often citing that she didn't need other people, she has few friends and tends to treat the people around her as being beneath her and refers to them in a mocking and even insulting tone more often than not. Despite this carefully crafted exterior, Asuka does occasionally feel lonely in her little world, and will sometimes reach out to other people to awkward ways to make herself feel better. This is most evident in a scene in which Asuka sneaks into Shinji's bedroom and lays down beside him, an action that causes Shinji to freak out, but also one that seemed to give Asuka some level of comfort.

As the film progresses, we see Asuka slowly begin to open up. This is seen mostly in her garnering something of a crush on Shinji that causes her to do such things as attempt to cook dinner for him and, more importantly, put aside her own feelings and volunteer to pilot Evangelion Unit-03 during a start-up experiment so that Rei could have the night for her dinner party with everyone. A similar level of growth can be seen in her conversation with Misato before entering Unit-03, in which Asuka admits that it wasn't so bad talking to people at a heart-to-heart level.

This impressive act of kindness shows great growth for Asuka as a person, but also proves to be her downfall, as, during the experiment, Unit-03 is taken over by the Ninth Angel and is forced to do battle with a berserk Unit-01. Though we never see Asuka's reaction to the battle, we do hear her scream when Unit-01 finally defeats the Angel and then breaks its entry plug in half with a single bite, leaving Asuka in such horrible shape afterwords that she had to be sealed away due to risk of contamination from the Angel's influence.

During the decade and a half between the end of 2.22 and the beginning of 3.33, Asuka has become jaded and a bit bitter. Having been forced to fight a war for years upon years, she lacks a good deal of the vigor and bravado that marked her youth and instead tends towards a rather severe and cold disposition, a type of maturity garnered from fighting for her life on a daily basis and living in a world which allows little time for anything but conflict. Indeed, the only time we really see Asuka fully embrace the glory of her past is while she is piloting an Eva. While seated in the giant robot, her speech becomes much more lively and she evens manages to smile on one occasion. It seems as if she is happiest while doing what she had loved as a child – and, on some level, it seems to help to distract her from just how bad things have become, even if just for a little while.

While piloting an Eva seems to help Asuka stay happy in a dreary world, another part of her past brings her nothing but shame and anguish, for upon Shinji Ikari's rescue after fourteen years, Asuka is forced to confront her feelings for him, leading to nothing but ill thoughts for the former Air Force captain. In many ways, her crush on Shinji has come to represent everything wrong with her childhood self. For all she had done for him, Shinji had just used the opportunity to lavish attention upon Rei and then, through his own selfish actions, managed to cause Near Third Impact and begin the mess she had found herself embroiled in for fourteen years.

No longer calling Shinji an idiot as she did when she was a child, Asuka now refers to him as a brat, a fact that frames well how Asuka now sees her former crush. While she was forced to endure life in a hellish landscape of war and violence for over a decade, and thus was forced to grow and mature whether she liked it or not, Shinji remained in stasis for the entire period of time and remained the child he was the day he caused Near Third Impact. This, in many ways, leaves Asuka to see Shinji as a physical reminder of the follies of her youth, not only in that she now regards her crush on him as something that brings her pain to remember, but also as a reflection of the person she used to be as well.

It is worth nothing that due to a mysterious set of circumstances known as “The Curse of Eva”, Asuka has not aged a day physically since the battle with the Ninth Angel. This reinforces her issues in that while others have grown and matured physically, she has been forced to remain perpetually 14 for a decade and a half. In many ways, Asuka's own inability to grow up physically is something of a reflection of the fact that she still remains hung up on her issues from the time when she was literally 14.

The ultimate reflection of this comes near the end of 3.33, in which Shinji manages to trigger a true Fourth Impact. After having been stopped from doing so by a combination of Kaworu sacrificing himself and Mari removing Shinji from his Eva, Asuka is the first to find the now mentally broken Shinji lying in the fetal position. Asuka snidely remarks that Shinji couldn't even save her, echoing how her younger self had seen Shinji as someone who could bring her out of her isolation, but who she now saw as a weak child who caused others nothing but pain.

So in all, as of 3.33, Asuka is jaded woman who feels most at home on the battlefield and who also grapples with unresolved issues from her youth on a regular basis. Despite all of this, she still manages to put her all into fighting a seemingly endless war with NERV and protecting the few things that are still special to her.
