No kidding? As strange as it'll be to live through a season besides blistering heat, I'm sort of looking forward experiencing what the world was like before Second Impact messed everything .
Near-Third Impact is what people have been calling the event that the brat instigated when he tried to rescue Wonder Girl from the core of the 10th Angel.
That was fourteen years ago, and since then I haven't aged a day. I'm actually 28, despite how I look.
Fine, but I'll say this up front, I was sealed away because of possible Angel contamination during the whole mess, so I only heard all of this secondhand from Misato.
Anyway, the tenth Angel consumed Unit-00 and it's pilot and transformed into some kind of weird angel-eva hybrid. After that Shinji tried to get 00's pilot back from the Angel's core, that caused Eva-01 to go crazy and nearly caused Third Impact. That's all I really know.
As for why I don't age. I don't know...It might be years of exposure to LCL or the contamination from the ninth Angel, but I can't really say for sure.
So you do not know anything regarding the Doors of Guf being opened. [ that's how an Impact often involves, no matter how it started. ] Still. To call it an Impact, that's what it usually means.
[ But an Angel fusing with Eva unit 01 - so they used Evangelion Unit-01 as Lilith's substitute. Angels would rather fuse with Adam than an Eva, but according to Asuka, Shinji was the one forcing his way into that fusion (and he probably had no idea what he was doing at the time). Not to mention Rei had been absorbed by the angel.
It's indeed the right ingredients to begin the Third Impact.
But if it's "Near" and if Asuka is alive years after, then - ]
How was the Third Impact stopped? And do you know the name of the 10th Angel? [ it's probably not Tabris, but he'd like to make sure. ]
Someone in a black Eva, MK. 6 I think, Impaled 01 with a lance. The world was pretty messed up anyway, but it wasn't completely destroyed at least. Dunno the Angel's name, we just call em by their number most of the time.

Who is Mari? [ he doesn't remember one single thing about someone named Mari. As matter of fact, he doesn't remember someone named Mari even existing in NERV or SEELE. ]
You were against NERV, then? Did you not use to pilot for them?

Man you ask a lot of questions, don't you? But anyway, Mari's the other pilot in Misato's group, she's sort of weird but even I have to admit she's talented.
[She pauses and takes a deep breath.]
After Near-Third, Misato and a good chunk of NERV's employee's split off and created a group called Wille to counteract all the stuff Shinji's dad and company were trying to do. And since then, we've been fighting back and forth for nearly a decade and a half.
That should be about everything. Now, Nagisa-kun, if you don't mind. Could you explain this stuff to Shinji if you see him before I do? I don't want to have to repeat all this.
Anyway, Shinji managed to pull a pair of lances out of the Second Angel's corpse and proceeded to cause another Near-Impact event, so it fell onto me and Mari's shoulders to stop him from destroying the world.
I imagine you can see why I call him a brat at this point.
But what is it exactly? I've lived through two near-Impacts at this point, and I fail to understand how there could possibly be anything worse then those.
Human Instrumentality Project is the forced evolution of humanity through bringing about Third Impact. It's the rite of artificial evolution brought upon mankind in which the old life carrying the Fruit of Knowledge is sacrificed to create a new life also blessed with the Fruit of Life.
Got it. I guess it's my job to stop that from ever happening then.
[Fruit? Instrumentality? None of those words meant much of anything to Asuka, but preventing something horrible by stopping another Impact? That she understood.]
